This song is still relevant to today, even though it was released in 1969. Wow....Ray Davies is a great songwriter.

This album is a forgotten classic. The genius of Ray Davis' lyrics is shown off well on this whole album. Forget the comparisons and just enjoy, because sadly no one seems capable of reaching heights like this anymore.

in my opinion, the Beatles had one good album and one good song that wasn't on that album, while the kinks have so few songs that aren't good that I can't even think of a single one off the top of my head

@evilthesaurus however - i am not slating the kinks in anyway, I enjoy their music just as much. each of the members of the band really were great musicians too and Ray Davies song writing ability is absolutely top notch throughout their discography - however he had a completely different style to both John, Paul and George - i feel Ray Davies lyrics in some instances do outclass john and paul's, but as I said john and paul's lyrics both are completely unique in their own ways.

@evilthesaurus the thing is man the Beatles have displayed pure class in everything they have ever done, very very very few songs, far less songs than any average band would have on their discography, are bad and even the 'bad' ones are at the very least enjoyable. The diversity of their music was expansive, the execution and playing ability second to none and well I mean come on are you telling me you don't like the Beatles because everybody else does... that's pretty childish.

You think they're better than The Beatles because.....no one told you they were great?? Try and put onto words just what they had and where it differs from what John and Paul had. One of the great albums, yet it really did not get much attention....Ray Davies and his band kept hitting home runs but nobody bothered to tabulate....something about Kink songs grabbed me with "Well Respected Man" and never let go...."Village Green" and all the others were masterpieces.....Imagine writing "Lola" "Waterloos Sunset" and "Sunny Afternoon" Big Man with the pen...
