i specially love it how he sings "separate ways, OK". :D But the whole song is great - actually i have to say, i know all albums, but theres not one bad song !! I just thing, about 2-3 songs off "Everybody's In showbiz" are not as good as all other kinks songs. but remember, the kinks, and specially dave and ray, had shortly after that time their psychical low-point..

That song was actually written more as a piss-take; Ray's sister wouldn't stfu at the time about how great Australia was and how she was gonna go there. This was of course during a period of massive ad campaigns by the Australian government to entice more Brits to become Australians. But you didn't wanna come in big enough numbers anymore, Western Europeans were too stuck up so we had to scrape the bottom of the barrel in Southern Europe. Now we have a glut of immigrants; how times have changed

I love how it starts off with Victoria and how great the British was and how lucky one was to be born in that empire, but by the end of the album the main character has to emigrate to Australia to find a better life.

if you genuinely think the beach boys are better than the beatles there's something wrong... the kinks i understand because they actually have a decent amount of good stuff really have nothing outstanding...

As much as I love the music, several of the Kinks songs are bitter diatribes against family life (do you remember walter). but family life is obviously extremely important to most people, and can lead to an extremely full life. Not necessarily as dull as Ray thinks.
