The most accomplished and versatile songwriter of our time, comparable to Irving Berlin in his marvelous range and prolificity. Criminally underrated [or taken for granted] by those who should know better.

The sad thought is that I'm just about to "sit and relax by the fire".

This music will stand the test of time, I'm sure. Already it's forty years and more since I first bought it and people are still loving it. How many artists recording today will be able to say the same in forty years' time? But I reckon this music will still be enjoyed a hundred years after it was composed, maybe two hundred. I'm so pleased to have been around when it first came out. Being born into the era of Ray Davies is like being born onto the age of Bach or Mozart.

The brutal exposition of the regular man's powerlessness and meaninglessness in this song is one of the saddest stuffs I've ever listened to.

What I respect most about the Kinks is that they were, by far, the most English of the British Invasions Bands. Rather than playing the Blues or singing with a high voice, the Kinks crafted a distinct identity which still defines them to this day.

When i was a kid i thought of a depressed middle aged work-a-day man. But now that I'm on the other side of that equation… You know - - it's really "all good" in my Shangri-La (Loved the kinks for 35 yrs.)
