Renaissance before Annie Haslam!

Back on again... in a better quality!... Enjoy! ;-)

Most of you are probably more familiar with the Renaissance group featuring Annie Haslam as main vocalist instead of the original line-up featuring Keith Relf and Jane Relf as front singers...

In between this transitional stage however, Renaissance had seen a succession of personnel and changes in style over a year or so!..

The line-up shown here, only knew a short existence from November till December 1970.

It consisted of:

Terry Crowe (lead vocals and backing vocals)

Binky Cullom (lead vocals and backing vocals)

Mike Dunford (guitar and backing vocals)

John Tout (keyboards)

Terry Slade (drums)

Neil Korner (bass guitar)

NB: This track was originally sung by Terry Crowe himself on Renaissance's second album!...

The keyboardist in the video is John Tout (I think) - he passed on recently, and will always be remembered.

Type "Kim Slade" into the search box and you'll find the youngest son of singer, Binky Cullom and drummer, Terry Slade. Kim is a singer-songwriter based in Brighton UK

Makes a change from recycling the Russians I suppose. Although it might be a theme from one of the Russians! You can almost see Mick Dunford on the live bits thinking "when this lot have gone I'm gonna nick this bit..." Gawd, I love your videos, Mr Jim.

Wow. Especially after Michael Dunford's death, it is wonderful and uplifting to see this old footage featuring him, Binky, and the rest who held the group together in those days. There is probably no greater story in all of "pop" music. Thank you.

I always thought of Renaissance as a living thing and the three major line ups (including Illusion) were all just inspired workers, uncovering the music. Each put their own spin through their own talents but the source of all the music was the same ideal, and thus inspired by something lager than the individual parts. In short I always viewed every line up (including Illusion) as the same band - Renaissance.

I never knew about this line up; they're really good.

Groovy isn't it! This is a great track, and I like this transitional version. It's archetypal English hippydom, isn't, and Mrs Tyler is a flash of USA glamour in some field outside Luton (or wherever!) Fantastic.
