I think Florence Ballard was a good singer but her sound was not unique. Diana Ross had a distinctive kind of voice. Of course the right material helps. If Florence had been handled properly, she could have had a fabulous career.

I LOVE Flo, but I must say... THIS is one of the best songs that showcases her beautiful voice in her higher range on her album. The other ones are a bit dreary, and you can even hear it in her voice. I would listen and become sad... But I'd say this song and "Love Ain't Love" were the best songs... they're upbeat and show her versatility!

Love this.... This proves Flo could have been the lead on any of the hit songs. She actually sounds soft like Diana here. So she could have crossed over. She sounds like Diana here.... Those 3 young girls were amazing...but fate would have it....

You said - " just like most of them you will do anything to discredit all the other Supremes. " Its funny - All African women hate Ross and love the others. I am a white guy . But black women are very cruel to Diana Ross.

Wow - You took my statement the wrong way. I am sorry you misunderstood me. I just wondered what your point was ? . I love Diana Ross and also the other Supremes . Florence was a living doll and I was devastated when she died. I followed them from the early 1960s. I met Diana in the 1990s in New Jersey. She sang at my wifes company Christmas party . Again - I did not mean it the way you took it.

Many of the best singers in the world never had training like Barbara Streisand. What is your point ?

It's sick they did not put her where she belonged, all three of them were so great!

LORD She sounds so gooood!!! I love her and Diana. They were the best supremes! I wish there were a duett of Flo and Diana. Don´t know why people always start a fight about who´s better instead of being happy to be able to have such great beautiful and classy talants in one group! I´m so proud of both of them! R.I.P. miss Ballard <3

Thanks. I'm actually glad you said that. I can say too that Motown really played up my two background girls really well. It may sound crazy but I would always noticed them as much as Diana, the lead. And it's all good because it did work. But I'm glad that Mary could hold her own as well. Just thinking of how they began, all must have been decent singers but I never heard Mary solo (and not even completely) but one time. I'll look for something! :)

Yes exactly! They worked so well together at the time that no other girl group could touch them. Diana may not have been a strong vocalist but she had a unique sound for the time and Florence and Mary's voices complimented her perfectly. I will say about Mary though, while I agree with you that her vocals are non-destinct I was pleasantly surprised at how good she is and I do wish she had a few more solo's.
