I'm not from Manchester from the late 70's and I understand the meaning of Joy Divisions songs...or I find my own meaning, as no but Ian actually knows what he was feeling.

i love both joy division and hot chip, but i can see why people won't like this. i mean i do, but the joy division version has a certain feel to it that this version doesn't have. we have to consider the genres though. hot chip is more of an electronic, dance group, while joy division isn't. so obviously they are going to have completely different feels! no need to get angry about it, though. i don't think hot chip was trying to be "better" than the original. they just wanted a tribute cover.

It's not if this is a good cover or not. Joy division's original is unbeatable. However their take on this song is interesting in a new age of music & should be respected. Their paying homage to joy division, get into it.
