So The Fall or Durutti Column could do a great cover of this song? There is no "correct" way to play a song; you either like it, or not. Obviously, you don't. I'm not from Manchester from the late 70's and I understand the meaning of Joy Divisions songs...or I find my own meaning, as no but Ian actually knows what he was feeling.

i love both joy division and hot chip, but i can see why people won't like this. i mean i do, but the joy division version has a certain feel to it that this version doesn't have. we have to consider the genres though. hot chip is more of an electronic, dance group, while joy division isn't. so obviously they are going to have completely different feels! no need to get angry about it, though. i don't think hot chip was trying to be "better" than the original. they just wanted a tribute cover.

big hot chip fan and big joy division fan... not sure if they ought to be mutually exclusive... Like this version, find it quite stimulating, but really want and need to listen to the original, very loud in a very dark room and very very sooon...

It's not if this is a good cover or not. Joy division's original is unbeatable. However their take on this song is interesting in a new age of music & should be respected. Their paying homage to joy division, get into it.
