Love the video editing with the rain effect at the end (uploaded at a surprisingly early point in Youtube history as well, btw). All things are ephemeral.

Townes transcends genre, age, style. His songs, stripped down and haunting in there simplistic beauty, speak to everyone in the language that is the raw unbridled emotion that pours from his tortured soul.

When I first hear this song it gives me chills, and wonder if I can't say the same. But I can't write, so I listen to Townes and look at failures in my life. The missed chances on doing...enough.

I'm listening to this song as one of the worst wildfires in Colorado history rages all around us in 91º heat and high winds. I don't know why I find it so comforting but I can't seem to stop playing it.

@FreshWaterOtters I don't know if I buy that. His greatest songs were built on his ability to take some of that self-destructive sorrow and turn it into beauty. If he was happier, would he have written such great things? Who can say? Francis Bacon, Kurt Cobain, Michaelangelo... Sometimes art comes from dark places, and if you medicate to stop the pain, maybe you lose that inspiration. I'm not saying that would have been true in his case, but again...who knows?

@FreshWaterOtters He lived and died exactly as he wanted. What's the problem with that?

This was from his "No Deeper Blue" album. You just made a great discovery! A little late like a lot of us, but better late than never!

@leahcim3360 were you truly a friend of Townes? Please tell me he had laughter for at least a moment in his life. every song that I truly love leaves me hurting for him and his ability to write such lyrics. gets inside my head when I go thru TVZ binge to the point I have been asked "you've been listening to townes again haven't you?"
