Townes Van Zandt playing a medley of his hit. This is "Pancho & Lefty" played at Uncle Seymour's place. Taken from the DVD extras on "Heartworn Highways". If you have any interest in this type of music you MUST BUY THIS DVD. It is outstanding in every possible way. It'll show you real country music the way it was . . . and should be. Not this overproduced, "all hat, no cattle", pop-music crap that Nashville has been barfing out for the last few decades.

If you enjoy this kind of thing you'll really like the music at my Live365 channel. Check it out and "like" my page:

According to Emmylou Harris, Townes Van Zandt said there are two kinds of music. There's blues and there's Zippity doo dah.

[What real country music the way it was . . . and should be. Not this overproduced, "all hat, no cattle", pop-music crap that Nashville has been barfing out for the last few decades.] True... very true! Thanks for sharing this; I've always liked the raw feel of real Country music. Back when I was a kid, it wasn't called "Country" it was called "Country and Western". I wonder why they dropped the Western? It might have to do with that Nashville thing you were talking about? ie: Country = souther (Nashville), whereas Western = Texas and the far west (possibly New Mexico and Arizona, even up into the Northern Rockies, Colorado and Montana and Wyoming). Just a thought.

Such a great song. Been playing Pancho and Lefty with the Suburban Brothers Band for about 20 years. Song has a quiet strength and story line that gets people's attention. Inevitably, someone comes up to me during a break or after the gig and either tells me that it's their favorite song or says they never heard it before and loved it. It's one of those songs that pulls you in.
