The Rolling Stones, "Honky Tonk Women" guitar lesson. Today we're using the Catalinbread SFT to provide the round overdrive in this tune. The '69 studio recording of Honky Tonk Women finds Keith Richards' guitar part panned to one side, enabling you to follow along without interruptions. The key to many Stones tunes is the open G tuning, where one finger chords and bluesy licks jump out with ease. Keith also varies his timing and accents quite a bit, an example is the two variations of 'G licks' after the C chord. Isolating Keith's parts also reveals a cleanish tone with a fat bottom end, which is why we chose the Ampeg voiced Catalinbread SFT, a great warm overdrive for both guitar and bass. Enjoy your daily guitar lesson.

Open G is G,B,D,G, B, d.You tighten to get the G and the B, but you loosen the string to get the d.

I love it and this '52 Tele is my absolute favourite Tele since I'm 15, is it the Japan or USA version?

Excellent demo. Play it, show it, do it slowly and no excessive yakking. Perfect. I love looking to learn a track and find you teaching it. And I'm a pro, been playing for 40 years. Don't listen to the whiners. You nailed it.

Andy- thanks for a great lesson! It is very precise and was easy to follow! I appreciate the slow motion parts! I love playing along with the song now! All I need is a bandana, loads of earrings, and a cigarette hanging from my mouth! ( I don't smoke- maybe a candy cigarette!) Keep up the great work!
