The Black Keys, "Lonely Boy" guitar lesson. Today we're using 3 pedals, a Boss Harmonist for the intro dive bomb, a Wampler Tweed '57 for the overdrive and a Malekko Lofi E616 MKII for some slapback echo. Dan Auerbach use the S-Bend mode on his Boss PS-6 to take the low E down an octave, a simple 'trick' that makes this song so recognizable. Although accomplished with fuzz, the Wampler Tweed '57 lays down a raw foundation with a fuzz like texture that can cover the whole song. Lonely Boy also has a firm slapback echo in the 3 chord verse and the Malekko Lofi Ekko 616 MKII can easily manage with a strong analog repeat full of warbling vibrato. Enjoy your daily guitar lesson.

5 in bites at the guitar are great...I love this and will be checking out your other video's to maybe subscribe...I read one of the other comments looking for fret # and which string...Let those who have time to study that stuff find some other place , as there are many! This might be a resource some of us looking to grow our songlist just before the gig!! Thumbs up guys!

when you give a lesson; if you could just go ahead and say what frets you are playing the strings at, as well as just playing them. That'd be greeeeeaaaat.

Just get a Behringer Ultra Shifter US600 instead.... half the price and better results than the Boss PS6

Saw the BKs live and Dan DOES NOT use a whammy on this tune.

For those thinking they use a whammy for this riff, they actually use they the previous version of the harmonist pedal for the intro. I believe it's a PS-5 Super Shifter or earlier version but Boss no longer makes this pedal under the super shifter name so the harmonist is the closest thing. Go check out their gear rundown. Hope that helps.

That was awesome guys! There's actually a cinematic blues version of this on my channel with a really trippy video. Thank god for the Black Keys!!

The settings on the Boss Harmonist are difficult to see in the video because of the angle of the pedal. Do you have a better picture of them or can you tell me what they are set at? Thanks.

The Raconteur

Dan Auerbach uses a PS-5, not a PS-6. For those that care about that kind of thing.
