@Rich How - Actually, Bernie was very very interested in the American culture. It wasn't so much that Elton wanted to appeal to the American market. If you listen to "Indian Sunset," "Ballad of Danny Baily" and "Harmony," you'll see what Bernie was interested in. Imagine being a young, British poet with a penchant for American history. Bernie was a poet to begin with, not a 'lyricist'. It almost seemed like Bernie was born on the wrong side of the pond this lifetime.
