Elton's shirt is quality and his voice is pristine here. No wear and tear. Dee, rest him, in my opinion was Elton's best bassist. Nigel, looks really kind of amateurish playing the drums here, all arms and heal down on the bass drum. Looks forced almost. But he's a great musical drummer no doubt and has the biggest Slingerland kit I've ever seen. What a sound though. Brilliant performance.

Had this album since some point in the '70's although not for some years after it came out. Wonder if everyone on tours back then did stay at Holiday Inns or if this was just a young up and coming artists's naivete. Bet it has been a long time since he stayed in one, just sayin'.

This old BBC tape shows what the deal was about EJ. Back in the days when EJ was just a hardworking professional musician, and not a "celebrity". Wonderful pipes, unbelievable piano chops, he always brought high energy. As fantastic a performer/writer as EJ was, he would never have succeeded as he did without Bernie Taupin's pithy, quirky lyrics. I only wish EJ had quit performing after about 1977. But he chose to become "Mr. Fabulous" instead. At least we've got these tapes to remind us of why we liked him in the first place, and why he deserved all the attention he got.

Saw him perform this song a couple of years ago in Sunrise, Florida. His voice is a little deeper now but his performance is just as good as ever, and he always has those killer lyrics from Bernie.

In the BBC studios, I'm sure the audience was instructed to behave themselves, whether they wanted to or not!

Bloody hells bells! Genius! Elton himself should watch this as a reminder of what he was once like! A million miles from the derge that he now serves up. This performance is amazing and the album this song comes from is a masterpiece.
