Solo at 3:00 is unreal. Love the half-time feel and the way it builds up speed.

Blue Powder was originally recorded in 1986 as a showcase track for Carvin, using their X-100B amplifier, and given away with Guitar Player magazine in flexi disc format.

I haven't heard this in 15 years. I couldn't appreciate its sheer genius until this day.

My god... I just listened this song high, i never heard Vai actually recorded two guitars... Each of them has a light different sound, and sometimes they are doing different and complementing each other... That make the sound so incredible... They are divided by the panning (L/R). Why I never heard that ? Fuck this is genius so much level in this only song...

Stu Hamm on bass. I first heard this on a floppy single 'vinyl' insert from a guitar magazine in 1985 or '86. Remember those?

The melody he plays at 3:55 is lifted from Frank Zappa's solo on Keep it Greasy (7:18 in Zappa's version)

Been listening to this since the 1985 SOUND PAGE version from Guitar Player mag came out (remember the floppy 45rpm records that came with each issue in the 80s?).It's still one of my favorite pieces of music ever.Genius.;)
