Sleep carried the flag of modern heavy music with "Dragonaut" as highlight of their set at Scion Rock Fest 2012 in Tampa, Florida.

Sleep evolved in the early 1990s and has exerted a considerable, consistent influence on modern heavy music ever since. The group split in 1997 after the release of two hugely influential albums—Sleep's Holy Mountain and D*pesmoker—returning triumphantly in 2009 when it performed two UK shows as part of All Tomorrow's Parties' (ATP) The Fans Strike Back festival, playing Holy Mountain in its entirety along with selections from D*pesmoker. The rabid fan response to the 2009 shows resulted in a run of U.S. live dates in September 2010 that immediately sold out. In celebrating the band's return, The New York Times referred to the trio as "excellent" and The Chicago Tribune called SLEEP "stoner-rock titans."

I think Al sounds better in this recording than he did back in the day- more raw and visceral. It just wasn't mixed very well IMO; too loud compared to the instruments.

Point for you.But I never really cared for either him,nor Mercyfull Fate. Same thing goes for Manowar and Eric Adams, great singers without a doubt, but not my cup of tea. The thing is that their style of metal has a totally different claim of what the Vocals should transent; in comparision to Sleep,it's opera against chants, epic streetching out of the music against trance interwoven in riffs. Al achieves just fine what he wants to,even 20 years later...just like the King.

Born 1973,original song recorded in 1992 and you expect him to sound just like that at a concert in 2012 ??? A bit much to ask...at least he doesn't need a teleprompter to remember the lyrics. And yes,I got the years from wiki. On that note, one of the tightest instrumental performance I had the honor ever to witness on youtube !!

Haha with an autotuner, perhaps. I honestly think that's just his more visceral live approach when it comes to the vocals. I'd have to go back and hear it again, but if he missed a note or two it's bound to happen at some point during live performances.

1. Fuck you, Al Cisneros is a beast. 2. You've clearly never listened to Rebecca Black.

I wish I could time travel back to the day of this performance. The level of reverberation of the distortion coming from the bass and guitars = godly. Never have I felt the marrow of my bones rattle so much from the distortion. If they would have hit a brown note, I would have made muddbutt in my pants and it would have been righteous-as-fuck. If you ever get the chance to see these guys live....do so. You will achieve spiritual nirvana through the power of the riff.
