Wow!Do I have a HOST of mixed feelings about this song and video! First, I like the fact that it's as unapologetically "racy" as it is. LOVE the offbeat, atonal guitar playing! I feel like they're TRYING to convey some sort of "message"...but they're REALLY just too wussy to do it! And if they acknowledged just how TRULY dark things like the "government" are, they wouldn't have a career!!! ;-)Also...I have "my" issues that I'd like to be put out there, musically, in the public realm. I've asked Mr. Stipe if he'd be interested, but haven't gotten a response. Oh, well. ;-\Oh, yeah...and I have NO PROBLEM with women publicly exposing their breasts. ;-)

I paid good money to see REM at the Norfolk. I went there expecting the show of my heroes. 1985. REM was okay. Minute Men stole the show. I bet if you asked Micheal Stipes about that show, he'd say D Boon kicked off.

Come for the toplessness, stay for the humor. I like how awkward they look when they're not dancing. Then they take a break within the video to kick it for a little while before returning to work. I remember watching an extended video called "Left of Reckoning" from "R.E.M. Succumbs" where they used the same annoying technique for about a half-dozen songs, and it was thoroughly awful. Sure, the band was making a statement about how much videos sucked and that it was just a corporate tool used to sell records and "Hey, we'll show THEM!" But I like this sort of thing much better, and not just cause ladies are hopping up and down without their shirts on. (I'm not gay, but I think Michael is just as sexy here, don't you?)
