Paul Simon - "Ace In The Hole" from Paul Simon's movie "One Trick Pony" (1980). One-Trick Pony is the fifth album released by Paul Simon, in 1980.

Paul Simon's One-Trick Pony was released concurrently with the film of the same name, in which Simon also starred. Despite their similarities, the album and film are musically distinct, each feature different versions of the same songs, as well as certain songs that appear exclusively on either the film or the album. The album is best known for the track "Late in the Evening" which was a hit for Simon in 1980, peaking at #6 in the U.S. Two of the tracks (the title song and "Ace in the Hole") were recorded live at the Agora Theatre and Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio in September 1979. The rest are studio cuts.

One Trick Pony is a 1980 film written by and starring Paul Simon. He plays Jonah Levin, a once-popular folk rock star who has not had a hit in 10 years, and who now opens for punk rock bands. He is trying to record a new album, but faces a number of obstacles, including a trendy but talentless producer who is trying to convince him to compromise his principles, and an indifferent record company which is pressuring him for something that will sell. He is also trying to restore his relationship with his former wife and his young son. The character wears a baseball cap for much of the film.

The five piece band on the picture and in the film:

Paul Simon: vocals, guitar, percussion

Steve Gadd: drums, percussion

Eric Gale: guitar

Tony Levin: bass

Richard Tee: piano, background vocals, tambourine

Steve Gadd is my all time favorite drummer. If drummers had their own government, he just might be President!

I wish I'd been able to see this band live. Boy, do I ever! But, to quote from another Paul Simon song, I wasn't "born at the right time."

Fun lyrics: "Once I was crazy and my ace in the hole Was that I knew that I was crazy So I never lost my self-control I just walk in the middle of the road I sleep in the middle of the bed I stop in the middle of a sentence"
