It's about a wound that has healed. I read some biography of Paul and the writer gushed about his first marriage, acting like "Hearts and Bones" was inspired by his first wife. It wasn't. "Hearts and Bones" was about Paul's relationship with his second wife Carrie Fisher, with a brief nod to his first wife.
