Ghoti is not pronounced fish in english.. ti only sounds like sh when followed by ion. Gh only sounds like f when at the end of a word led by cou making the word "cough" a special exception to it's normal silent behavior. Take ghost for example. Or tile for the ti pronounciation. English is just like any other language, it has rules in it's literature that must be followed. The only complications someone would have with spelling is l, in example, to, too, two. Or through, threw. And to those whom say americans are ignorant, it is you whom is truly ignorant and uneducated to the fact, that america is made up of pieces of the entire world. There is no such thing as an american culture; just different culture founded together in one nation. Which mind you, only took 300 years to become the world's leading superpower. So in other words, stop your bitching and enjoy the music.

Honestly, if it weren't for conflicting "noun genders" learning German would be pretty easy. I have always spoken English, and my mom and younger sister can only speak English (but my sister is trying to learn Japanese, which is pretty awesome). I've learned Spanish and can speak fluently, but I never really took interest in it because I had a hard time connecting to it. In my opinion, if you can speak English + another language, every language you learn after is much easier. I've started teaching myself German (because I LOVE the German rock scene) and Korean because Kpop and Kdramas are very interesting. And from there, if you work hard, it gets easier :)))If you want to learn another language, just submerge yourself in it!Want to learn Korean? Watch Kdramas!Want to learn Spanish? Try Telenovelas!Want to learn Japanese? HELLO!? ANIME!!!It's probably impossible to learn entirely that way, but the best way to get started is to be familiar with it. Just being able to distinguish one word from another (even if you don't know the meaning) is the first step!! Good luck :)

German is pretty simple. Pay attention to your articles and the meanings of sentences are clear. If you don't know what your articles mean, that's where you get in trouble. Once you know those, the language is as open as a book in most places.

In comparison, most languages have stable rules. I'm learning Russian and Finnish right now, and in comparison to English, they have a lot of rules, but, those rules are almost never broken. In English, there are insane amounts of rules, but you don't even need to know most of them because said rules are only in affect for certain situations, as well as the fact that the regular rules are broken by the immense amount of irregularities in the English language. English is definitely very hard

I agree. Learning English may not be as hard for a German speaker or vice versa but it would be a lot harder in other languages where there are less similarities between the two and it is not wildly used. I've been taking Spanish for the last few years and am able to pick up the tiny bits of German I've learned so far from sheer interest, however I've met people who can't grasp those languages because it's not convenient or necessary to learn them because of where they live or were from.

Funny enough, a German friend of mine was teaching me some of the language and yeah while it translates as that, you have to understand the different cases because stuff like this can really screw you over without knowledge of them and how they work.

Yeah but what makes learning English easy is that the language is everywhere and you keep hearing it everywhere. Where do you hear Finnish? Nowhere. Plus it is really hard language, we often get confused with the grammar. Helvetin vaikea kieli etten sanoisi. :DD

Bem, eu sou brasileira. Português não é difícil para quem fala línguas latinas, mas para pessoas acostumadas com línguas germânicas e de outras origens etc. torna-se complicado não só por causa da gramática mas principalmente por causa da pronúncia e dos diversos sentidos que, às vezes, 1 só palavra pode apresentar. Eu sou boa em português, é uma das minhas matérias preferidas, mas noto que as regras gramaticais são bem complexa. Mas te admiro, pq eu sou PÉSSIMA em espanhol! Kkkkkkk

Trust me German's pretty god damn hard, we break rules too, and the ones we have make no sense. XD Look at the following sentences: Den vogel aß die Katze. (the cat ate the bird) Die Katze aß den Vogel. (the cat ate the bird) literally translated the first sentence is "the bird ate the cat" however, due to German grammar it means "the cat ate the bird" which is also what the second sentence means. And that was still relatively easy XP Whereas I don't see how english is hard at all. .-.

English didn't really "evolve" out of German. Modern English and modern German are sister languages that come from different branches of the West Germanic language family. Modern German isn't really a parent language of modern English.
