Totally love this song, from Dream Theater's first keyboardist Kevin Moore. This could have been an amazing DT track, but stands amazingly well on its own. I wish his other stuff were this piano-oriented.

Kevin Moore's singing is so much more emotive in this album than the later ones and OSI. I wish he'd give the melodic turns more time in his current material in OSI, like he did in that Elliot cover on the bonus disc of Blood and this first Chroma key album

Hmm. Good song, but the vocals suck.

Who is playing Drums in this track? Is it Mark Zonder or Mike Portnoy?

You obviously haven't heard about Rudess's numerous solo albums. Whether you like what he composes or not, he is a composer.

Dream Theater wasn't as good without Kevin Moore because he was the actual composer in the band. That's pretty obvious.

See, it's weird, I liked Moore's music alot with DT, and alot solo, but with OSI not so much, and I loved Derek's solo stuff, not so much what he did with DT. As for Rudess, I love what he does outside DT, and when he plays with DT I feel it's great, but not as good as Moore emotionally.

I think there are many who will agree with you, me included. Rudess seems to lose himself in his taste for speed. I find his melody architectural structures unfriendly to my ears. Perhaps it has to do with his playing technique along with his sound color choices. I love Kevin's ideas and the sphere of melancholic anger/cynical mood he operates within. Although I love sophisticated music, I find it rather difficult to even try to relate to Jordan's creations.

I don't know how many times you've listened to BC&SL, but Jordan Rudess has some incredibly powerful keyboard parts during that album. there are things I dislike about the album (Count of Tuscany Lyrics, the Portnoy growls, and best of times lyrics to name a few), but the work of Rudess are far from the worst parts of the album. They are the best part of the album in my opinion.

correction in my previous reply, Moore is an actual songwriter

Nope, Rudess is not a half-assed composer, because he is not a composer at all. (Unless by "composing" you mean "coming up with the solos and the occasional scale runs here and there") It is pretty obvious Petrucci and Portnoy (today Petrucci alone) were the only ones who came up with the overall structure of DT's songs, although in some cases, that structure can be influenced by Rudess' ideas (e.g., Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, the 42 minute song).

The whole of Black Clouds & Silver Linings album is crap. (A Dramatic Turn of Events does not help Dream Theater's case either.) And I mean it seriously - even Falling into Infinity is better. But Rudess has his fair share of good moments: Blind Faith (the [Rick Wakeman in "Close to the Edge"]-esque solo), Misunderstood (minus the last 3 minutes), Stream of Consciousness (the solo at the 9 minute mark), etc., although it cannot be disputed that Moore is an infinitely better songwriter.

nope, the vocals are different from the album version dude

No disrespect to Rudess, he's a great pianist/keyboardist and I like him a lot but, despite his technical prowess, he can't just convey feelings through music like Moore does. Kevin Moore may not be the most technically gifted player out there but he surely is one thing: a genius.

I also agree with every single word you say.
