Todavía en los años 50, la música popular no tenía el mismo grado de prestigio y de autonomía de la que goza hoy (recordemos que ahora se estudia en las universidades). Los músicos eran parte del *show business*, como un malabarista, un bailarín o un enano de circo. La división entre el letrista, el compositor, el arreglista, los músicos, el productor y el "artista" o cantante era muy clara. En esa estructura, una de las primeras estrellas *pop* fue Frank Sinatra.En el Liverpool de los 50, dos jóvenes como Lennon y McCartney, a lo que aspiraban era a ser un dúo de compositores, nada más, como Rodgers & Hammerstein o Goffin & King, como parte de Tin Pan Alley o algo similar. Y soñaban con escribir éxitos que luego se convirtieran en *standards*, para una boda, para un cumpleaños, porque así era vista la música en aquellos tiempos. Y soñaban con que Sinatra y Nat *King* Cole y Elvis cantaran sus canciones.La primera pieza de The Beatles que cantó Sinatra (de seguro a regañadientes) fue "Something". Tan poco aprecio debía de tener Sinatra por ellos que siempre anunciaba en sus conciertos esa canción de Harrison como creada por Lennon & McCartney.The Beatles fue el grupo responsable de que toda esa visión de la música (de que toda la industria de la música) cambiara por completo. Ellos lo hacían todo. Y por eso no solo contribuyeron a que la música popular fuera elevada al nivel de "arte" si no que también lograron su sueño de crear piezas estándar para bodas y cumpleaños.En 1974, Lennon creó y grabó "Nobody Loves You (When You´re Down and Out)". Dice que la hizo pensando en Sinatra. En una entrevista bromeaba: "Sinatra, ahí te dejo esa canción. Las cuerdas, los metales, todo está pensado para vos. Eso sí. No me pidás que yo te la produzca".Para mí, el mejor tema de Lennon. Hoy la celebro, como celebro un aniversario más del nacimiento de su creador: John Lennon (Inglaterra, 9 de octubre de 1940-EE.UU., 8 de diciembre de 1980).
