i wondered before when I heard " a man needs a maid " before this version, if neil young was pointing out that "a man needs a maid" is a little bit subconsciously about how it might have been easier for neil to pretend to be straight- and keep a woman around- to do the duties of a wife-and be totally willing to pretend to be his wife.. .and to hear this with "heart of gold" its kinda interesting heh..(that sort of woman- would need a heart of gold (i.e her heart was golden, and for that reason she was really special, or that her heart was only interested in gold)anyway, i think way too much, and i'm wrong 99% of the time- maybe more lol.. could be neil young was saying a man needs a mother figure, a care giver.. etctwo of my favourite songs in one, anyhow, and i am totally wrong.
