Considered a cult musician, Townes Van Zandt was a gifted songwriter. With an addictive personality he suffered from heroin and alcohol addiction most of his adult life. He had a genius IQ but was a manic depressive. This song is one of many he wrote but made famous by artists other than himself. That seemed to be the story of much of his life.

It was written by townes. Doc recorded it in I think 72 and won a Grammy performing it with his son. Townes version wasn't released until later on the late the great. I could be wrong but this is what I've found thus far. 10 years ago
