This should be a working class classic. Speaks to me about the Clyde, though he sings of the Tyne. The days of that sort of industry are all but done now in the UK. Amazing song. :)

I'm from Jarrow and even though that's south of the Tyne, this song always rings true. My dad worked in the Neptune Yard when I was a kid and he had mouths to feed and bills to pay. Great song that captures the North East perfectly.
