"... the overall 'cool' feel of rock and roll as opposed to the shouting of R&B or..." Rock and roll was associated with shouted lyrics, which is why Little Richard was considered a rock and roll singer. This is certainly not the first rock and roll recording, e.g. Chris Powell's "Rock The Joint" and Jimmy Smith's "Rock That Boogie" were recorded in 1949, and it's not even the first recording of distorted guitar over backbeat, e.g. Joe Morris's "Midnight Grinder" was recorded in January 1951. Sam Phillips liked the idea that he produced the first rock and roll recording, and he told influential, gullible, and lazy rock writers that this was the first rock and roll recording because he produced it.

there are two other songs that could easily be considered the first rock & roll songs. i wouldnt say sixty minute man is. its more r&b. but if you listen to thats all right by arthur crudup. recorded in 1946 on rca. and good rockin tonight by roy brown recorded in 1947 on deluxe. those are more like rock&roll. and way earlier.

I love how it says horn "sound effect". It's not like there were synthesizers knocking about in those days.

@1458chess You are correct. This is the second time this week I've seen inaccurate interpretation of the lyrics in that verse. The other was an ad for muscle cars, in which Rocket 88 was mentioned and the lyrics were written out in the ad. It's called politically correct or not really listening to the song. My take. I hear a basic Boogie Woogie riff in this one. Was it really rock n' roll? Certainly was a seedling if nothing else. I think Louis Jordan's "Caldonia" comes closer though.
