Not trying to offend anyone but why is this specifically considered the first rock and roll song. The songs below seems to carry characteristics that is usually attributed to rock and roll and all of them came earlier. What makes this different, it's chord progression, melody, harmony, phonetic pattern, what exactly.Goree Carter - Rock Awhile (1949)Roy Brown - Good Rockin' Tonight (1947)Move it on Over - Hank Williams (1947)Big Joe Turner - Roll 'Em Pete (1938)

Did not know this. Always thought the first rock'n'roll hit was "Shake, rattle, & roll" by Bill Haley & the Comets in '54.

Ike and Tina opened for Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland at the Stockton Civic in 1960? Maybe 59. Last time they opened for anybody. Tore the house down. One of those rock moments you never forget.

History at it's finest when a massive hit was only caused by a complete accident like corn flakes

Rock and roll is to big to be born from one song. In my estimation, the previous decades of jazz played the biggest roll. Swinging big bands were rocking the house long before anything that could be called "rock and roll". But by the advent, numerous styles came together to manifest the strongest musical force ever; and it always be greater than the sum of it's parts. :)

Have to say, the first recorded rock song seems pretty heavy for the time.
