I am fairly certain Rage was on in 1984 as I was recording on VHS i 1983 and still have the tapes. The tapes still work, DO NOT believe the nonsense that VHS players wont be around I have around 20 VHS players and they all work. Major electronic companies want u to throw out the equipment so u give them work and profits. My first VHS machine cost $650 in 1983 an AKIA that was serious money then

I've been trying to play this for ages. It sounds so simple! Belmont does something with the chord changes and the offbeat...any chance a YouTube guitar geek will post a learning lesson? It's a great song...

uh, I could be wrong, and Accidents Will Happen, but I'm pretty sure Presley predates Parker.

ummm...nope. Elvis Costello's My Aim is True pre-dates Squeezing out Sparks. Of course GP already had a few albums under his belt by the time Elvis arrived on the scene. Impossible to prove but to my ear Squeezing out Sparks sounds markedly different from the albums that preceded it - More "new wave" and perhaps an "answer" to Costello? No matter, when it came out barely left my turntable for six months.

Welcome back Graham Parker and the Rumour. Looking forward to hearing "Three Chords Good". Remember hearing this and "Discovering Japan","Local Girls", "Emotional Traffic" on WPIX-FM in New York in 1979.

I always thought this song was about his desire to be protected from the criticism of the unenlightened pop consumer. The critics always loved him.
