Gilbert O`Sullivan - NOTHING RHYMED - 40th Anniversary Tribute video free download
The latter part of 2010 marked the 40th Anniversary of the release of Gilbert`s first hit single , the remarkable NOTHING RHYMED . This year , 2011 , marks the 40th Anniversary of the release of his debut album HIMSELF . This powerful song is still relevent today with its profound lyrics like " Will I glance at my screen and see real human beings starve to death right in front of my eyes " . It`s one of Gilbert`s most covered songs, with versions by such great artists as Tom Jones , Dusty Springfield , Burton Cummings , Aslan and many more . I don`t think any of them come close to Gilbert`s version - but that`s a matter of opinion ! If you don`t know - 40 years on Gilbert is STILL recording and performing and has a new album called GILBERTVILLE released soon ! Hope you enjoy this slightly different video for a Gilbert classic .

The song is good but difficult for me. My late sister Anna interviewed Gilbert for her Irish national newspaper back at the height of his fame. She also interviewed Conor Cruise O'Brien and Spike Milligan whilst up his tree in Kensington Gardens (she lived round the corner). I did not pay enough attention (sibling rivalry) but Anna did ask Gilbert what these brilliant sounding lyrics meant and he must have told her but I still don't really know. I still think he is under-rated.10 years ago
