*STEREO*. Gene McDaniels sings his sixties classic, with "Tower Of Strength". One of my favourites. Amazingly, only got to #49 in the UK charts - it was Frankie Vaughan's version that got all the way to #1 in 1961.

RIP Eugene McDaniels (1935-2011). One GREAT singer and songwriter...believe it or not, he wrote the Jazz classic "Compared To What?" done by Les McCann and Eddie Harris.

O.K. , i wondered why i didn't remember that Gene sung this, but now i realize i probably had heard the Frankie Vaughn version growing up. I'm loving this one though.

My mother used to play Gene all the time back in the early 70's I loved all his music. I was so sad to hear he had passed. He was one of a kind.

This should've been the theme song for Adam Sandler's DENISE SHOW sketch on SNL. ☺

Three singers recorded this song in the early sixties: Gene, Frankie Vaughan and Paul Raven (Gary Glitter)

Love this song! Gene McDaniels is so emotionally expressive in this song with the gritting affirmation of what he SHOULD do followed by that groan of abject failure! He delivers the message of this song on point! Great rendition, Gene!

A great song and singer, I really miss this type of music where you understood the words, the music had instrumentation and a tune to follow. Gene McDaniels fantastic.
