Marty Robbins - The story of my life 1958 .

Paintings by Harrison Fisher 1875-1934

The following is a comment by Chuck (chkjns).

"This song is a milestone - it's the FIRST song collaboration by Burt Bacharach & Hal David in 1957! As if that's not enough, the arranger/conductor backing Marty is RAY CONNIFF, one of the best selling recording artists of all time in his own right! Conniff's diary says this was released Sept '57. He was Columbia's leading arranger in the late '50s, creating hits for Guy Mitchell, Tony Bennett, and Johnny Mathis, among others.

The collective talent on this one recording is MINDboggling!"

To find this song I had to add Marty Robbins to the search, otherwise I get some One Direction garbage. What has the world come to?

Pretty indicative how Marty Robbins was mislabed as a country/western singer for much of his career. Robbins was a singer and talent that you could not pigeon hole into one genre of music. He sang ballads. Yes. Pop music. That too. Country. Yes. Marty Robbins was a popular American singer in a tradition of the best in popular American music. When one collaborates with Burt Bacharach and Hal David and Ray Conniff that places him in a rarified group that includes the likes of Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin

On this day in 1957 {November 11th} Marty Robbins' "The Story of My Life" entered Billboard's Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #15 and spent almost a half-year on the Top 100 {24 weeks}...It holds the distinction of being the first Hal David & Burt Bucharach composition to make the Top 100 chart...On Jan. 6th, 1958 it reached #1 {for 4 weeks} on Billboard's C&W Best Sellers chart...R.I.P. Mr. Robbins {1925 - 1982}, Mr. David {1921 - 2012} & Mr. Bucharach is 85 years young...
