Here is a brief description of some of the unique bamboo flutes I make, and which YOU can adopt! These are 6-hole Flutes in various keys, in the rare "whole tone" scale.

Prices vary for each piece, depending on bamboo specimen rarity, finish, size, and playability. Basic beginner flutes can be $20 - $30 while large Bass Flutes can be $80 - $100 - $120 up to $150 for really nice ones -- all very affordable!

My other models include Bass Meditation Flutes, Raga Flutes (tuned to East Indian "Ragas" or modal scales), Panpipes, and Bamboo Birdcalls of all sorts. I also make some "regular" 6-hole diatonic flutes (Do-Re-Mi), but specialize in the extremes of bass flutes and killer piccolos, and every size in between.

P.S. I have many CDs available, and you can hear some at www.MySpace.com/dassmusic

Have fun! Hope to hear from ya!

You say there are a lot of different keys you make. But arent there only two possibilities? A scale starting on c or a scale starting on b natural. The flute you played 'in e' is still the same whole tone scale seeing as all the intervals are a whole step for this scale.

yes the Indian Bansuris have their holes in a straight line, which can be difficult to play in larger sizes, whereas I usually offset the holes for easier playing, thus the elbows come down relaxed as opposed to the Bansuri which makes the elbows flare up as you try to cover the holes...

Howdy Das! Just came back home from India with a big Bansuri. Man, they are hard to play, trying to cover the holes with the portions of the fingers. Is that why you spread the holes around the flute? I see you play alot with the fingertips, must be pretty much easier that way hu? I will adopt a couple of your flutes when finances gets back to balance after the India trip! Greetings from Sweden.

Sure, any flute with finger holes can play a sliding scale of in-between notes by subtly moving your fingertip away from the hole, although mostly this technique is used for half-step increments...

Hi Das, If you play half holes on this, can you produce different tones, or is it limited to the tones built into it?

It is a very nice laminated poster of Radha and Krishna. Krishna, of course, is the Divine Cosmic Flute Player, and since I lived in India for many years doing research on ancient cultures and learning Sanskrit and several other languages there, thus Krishna became my main Muse for all things flutistic...

Hi HaHaHa - "as simple as" -- try as simple as 25 years of trial and error and inspiration and getting secret tricky tips from other experienced flute makers etc. etc. etc. You can just grab a piece of bamboo and stick some holes in it, will it suddenly make beautiful heavenly music or will it sound like cats fighting in the alley?
