Mr. Gilmour certainly knows his song and guitar craft better than anyone else in my book....

Pink Floyd/David Gilmour and the Alan Parsons Project could be the only music on Earth and I wouldn't mind.

I'm from Italy...Naples. Bellissima questa canzone. Ho ritrovato quest'album dopo....25 anni. Le emozioni che provo son sempre quelle...anche se gli anni son cambiati. Grazie per il bellissimo regalo ! Cirillino....

As thanks for the Gilmour interview links, here's a good interview with Waters: /watch?v=2PUyVZ0t1sU It's 24:46 long, so I'll give you a couple of highlights: Around the 5:30 mark, Roger actually starts to break down, near tears - although it has nothing to do with Rick Wright or any of the band. And at 16:16, the interviewer brings up the old lawsuits, and Roger explicitly says HE was wrong to try to stop them from using the name Pink Floyd: "I did think that was wrong, and I was wrong!"

You know what, though, I think David was sincere after all. The best evidence is how he let Rick Wright share in the spotlight and really shine during his solo tours. They were his shows, to do as he liked, and he brought Rick into the center of it all. Just watched them doing one of Rick's solo songs, "Breakthrough", and it's so beautiful, I HAVE to get Broken China. David learned the song and put his heart into backing Rick up on it. Too good to be anything but sincere. /watch?v=RcTXHZWKRUQ

Unfortunately, that second link made me dislike and distrust Gilmour more than ever. There's a strong cynical side of me, which is rarely wrong, that says, "Oh, nice way to get yourself a cheap 'standing ovation' - oh, it's for Rick, not you, right - and look like an angel in so doing. Just banter about your dead bandmate, 'This award's really for him', as if HE has any use for it now. And everyone acts like you're doing a fucking public service!" Maybe I'm worse than Roger Waters ever was.

Thanks for the interview links! Of course, most devoted fans probably already know they were miserable and clueless at the beginning of the WYWH sessions. I myself have pointed out that Gilmour's idea for the album's track list ("Shine On" on one side, the early versions of "Dogs" and "Sheep" on the other) would have sucked, but it's cool he admits it: "But [Roger] was right and I was wrong, not for the first time". Very classy. He also credits Roger for specifically noticing the "WYWH" riff.

That's an amazing story!

Interesting to hear you say that - I definitely agree with you about Gilmour's solo work v Momentary Lapse and Division Bell. But then I hold the perhaps unusual view that Floyd peaked at Animals and slowly declined after that.

To add to that... If you haven't guessed already, I am more of a Gilmour-guy than a Roger Waters-guy. This doesn't mean that I don't see Waters as an absolute genius when it comes to lyrics, and I love every single Pink Floyd album. David Gilmour's solo work (About Face especially) does beat a handful of Pink Floyd albums, in my opinion.

watch?v=9G91HQRSKW4 About two minutes in. Also, in a speech shortly after Richard Wright's passing away, he also hinted quite strongly at Roger Water's as well as his own foolishness: watch?v=58KjyQWKr80 Also to not leave your question unanswered, David Gilmour's solo albums are all very good. About Face does without any doubt beat A Momentary Lapse of Reason, I do however absolutely love The Division Bell, and I believe it is one of the most underrated albums by Pink Floyd.

@BenCulture The time of writing is definitely worth taking into account. It there was still a lot of tension between Roger and David at that time. David admitting fault... I will try finding a video.

Oh, I see I am repeating myself. Sorry folks!

I didn't know that - Gilmour admitting any fault, really? That's interesting. Thing is, 1984 and today are far apart. Even 1994 (Division Bell) was quite some time ago. So he may have humbled himself since then, but at the time ... well, who knows, really, especially with lyrics that may have been created by more than one person? I really like DG's solo albums, more than his Pink Floyd albums without Roger.

--> Con: between two people, where both are convinced of that their point of view is the right one. If you look at it in this way, even if the song is partially about Roger Waters, it is just as much a self-critique as it is a critique. To strengthen my argument, David Gilmour has stated several times that he has definitely been wrong in some of the discussions with Roger Waters, which, in my opinion, means it is highly unlikely that David Gilmour wrote this song just to make himself look good.

Hey Ben, I certainly agree that if one is to interpret these songs like that, they do indeed sound like a lot like David Gilmour is trying to make himself look like the great guy. The thing is, it's not necessarily the way the songs are meant to be interpreted. Especially in this song, "You Know I'm Right", I am very convinced that the song is greatly ironic, like most of the songs on "About Face". My interpretation is that he wants to underline the whole "unsolvable conflict" --> Continued

Having said all that . . . I flat-out LOVE this album. Every song. Yes, even "Cruise", and "Blue Light" (which won a worst-ever solo-song poll for The Amazing Pudding fanzine), etc. I like all three of Gilmour's studio solo albums, and Live in Dgansk is just awesome. I actually prefer his solo career to his two Pink Floyd albums without Roger Waters. Anyone else feel that way?
