WHEN JULIE COMES AROUND druhý britský hit amerického speváka Rona DANTE vl.m. Carmine Granito nar. 22. augusta 1945 v Staten Island ,New York pod názvom THE CUFF LINKS, ktorý bol v rebríčku 14 týždňov od 14. marca 1970 a skončil na 10.m. Pieseň naspieval spoločne s ďalším hitom Tracy, ktorý v UK skončil na 4.m. Spieval aj v hite fiktívnej skupiny Archies Sugar Sugar a v 70. rokoch produkoval deväť albumov speváka Bary Manilova.Po úspechu piesne Tracy bola vytvorená pre koncerty skupina v ktorej však Dante odmietol spievať. Najprv spieval v skupine Joe Cord a potom Rupert Holmes, ktorý je vo videoclipe. Zostavu tvorili Pat Rizzo saxofon, Bob Gill trubka, Dave Lavender gitara, Andrew Denno basová gitara, Rich Dimino klavesy a Danny Valentine bicie.V USA pieseň bola v rebríčku Billboardu deväť týždňov od 13. decembra 1969 a skončila na 41.m.Album TRACY bol v rebríčku 11 týždňov od 6. decembra 1969 a skončil na 138.m.

Standard practice in that day was for studio groups not to tour or do TV; Singers and players were often hastily hired to go on TV and hit the road when songs became hits, either learning the songs or lip-synching. The studio guys stayed put (Ron Dante was part of Jeff Barry's stable of singers) because they were needed to crank out at least two albums of material a year. The Cuff Links were a side project, away from normal duties. Dante later co-produced many of Barry Manilow' big hits.

This is part of my bubblegum bender. I have a theory: "When Julie Comes Around" and "Tracy" were sung by Ron "Sugar Sugar" Dante. But bubblegum bands are artificial studio concoctions, and it doesn't matter who mimes it... so by the time they did the TV appearances, Rupert Holmes lip-synched the songs. he would later have a huge hit with "The Pina Colada Song".

A question for the experts: is that Rupert Holmes (who later had a huge hit with "Escape, the Pina Colada Song") lip-synching Ron Dante's vocals? I asked the same question in the comments of the "Tracy" Video!

FYI - Read on another video this singer just lip synched to Ron's vocals and the Cufflinks were never a "real" group just studio musicians. Cheers!
