Second track from their 1978 album "Safety In Numbers".

Lyrics:

I see you sittin' there with nothin' on

But the T.V. set and a glass of somethin'

I think the rain has stopped but you don't care

You just sit and stare away

Old man you know it happens every day

People come and people go

I'd like to know just what you think she'd say

If she saw you now

Man I swear these are

Chorus:

Long nights

Long nights

Long nights alone

Long nights

Long nights

Long nights at home

I know you feel that you've been cheated, Dad

I can feel it too, I can feel for you

If I were crazy I would take your life

So you could go up there and join your wife

Old man you know it happens every day

People come and people go

Don't you hear me what I'm tryin' to say is

I'll take care of you

Man I know that these are

I was waiting for 2 months now to be able to play this song, I lost my Wife 2 months ago, this song says it pretty much to the T. Lots of pain, but I do have my 2 sons, and that I will live for.

I haven't heard this song since I was 13 in 1989! I didn't understand Crack The Sky then now I love this song! It reminds me of a hybrid of Badfinger and Electric Light Orchestra with a dash of Spy. Spy are an amazing band actually from my area in New Jersey, well close to it in NJ, but they never went anywhere. Crack The Sky are another case of a band who got done in by lack of publicity, changing times, all those annoying bad things that happen to great bands. Please give bands like Crack The Sky and Spy who never made it your full support. They deserve it more than most of the shit that makes it.

' saw john do long nights on the piano alone unplugged at painters mill, soooo long ago. I think he had just written it. ' still brings a tear. I hope they do it tomorrow night at pier 6 baltimore md . Can't wait... they can play all night for my money. Nuttn against boston, but I think they should be opening for crack the sky. ' lotta really great memories from painters mill music fair.

This song was in my head a lot 7 years ago when my Dad's wife passed and he seemed to lose the will to live. He went and passed less than a year later.

I think he wrote this about his father who had Alzheimer..Just what I herd..Long Nights, people with Alzheimer stay up all night sometimes..Its called Sun Downer Syndrome..That's the old time name for it..My Grandmother died of it..I tried to help her but could only stay with her for about 6 or 7 month..They are long nights.. And they loose all dignity..I miss Baltimore right now..Peace and Love//

Nothing more than well thought out lyrics and pure genious by a band that got the wrong end of the stick. Much better than most bands then and now. The energy on stage was nothing short of engaging and would bring you in with them. Lead guitar Micheal Taylor on this song and album is ok. My money is on Rick Witkowski, one of the best, along with Joe Macre on bass.

If you have older parents you may know the emotion here. It is a great song and it may bring a tear to your eye. Listen to the lyrics.

such an under rated band. truly deserve the popularity bands like Thin Lizzy and Zeppelin have. may one day a random generation uncover crack the sky and worship them.
