There's so many people Going to the races They paint on their faces And smile They watch the days fly by And don't even ask why Meanwhile The world that surrounds them Looks whithered and half dead And even your own head's been there You feel the depression And join the procession Nowhere As you march in the madness You crawl with the sadness That you might not leave the parade While the drummers are pounding You hear this astounding voice say: "Don't fear Come here Don't cry Stand by There's safety in numbers And numbers don't lie Don't lie" As the troops keep progressing You notice you've fallen behind And you're calling in fear But they're just too caught up In the way they've been brought up to here You halt for a minute And consider this strange voice Could this be your choice to lead? You hold the depression And watch the procession procede As the stranger gets nearer His image gets clearer He calls out and you hear him say "You've issued a May Day And May will be home for the day So Don't fear Come here Don't cry Stand by There's safety in numbers And numbers don't lie Don't lie" To yourself when yourself is Telling you that you're all That you have so just listen to You So exit the madness And enter the gladness And you will become quite aware You can end the depression And join the procession somewhere And "Don't fear Come here Don't cry Stand by There's safety in numbers And numbers don't lie Don't lie"

They were at the first concert I ever went to, it was March 4th 1978 , at the Spectrum in Philadelphia Pa .I was only 15 years old at the time ,, 3 bands total at the show plus a special guest . The main show was Blue Oyster Cult , also on the card was Sanford Townsend Band. The special guest was with Crack the Sky and it was George Harrison !!!! Yes George Harrison from the Beatles .. They sang 2 songs together one was "I Am The Walrus" I forget the second song ...

Lost count on how many times I saw them mostly in Baltimore and occasionally in DC (Bayou) and Virginia (Louies Rock City) Saw them open for Zappa at the CCenter. The rhythm section of Macre and DiAmico was an all world part of the band. J Palumbo took a flyer and did a solo project called Innocent Bystander which went nowhere. I guess that Gary Lee Chappell dude is on vocals here. I have no idea whatever happened to Jim Griffiths who was the other lead guitar player with RWitkowski. Best word I can use to describe their sound is eclectic. Nothing really straight forward like a 4/4 beat ... always pushing the edge with different harmonies and arrangements. Palumbo did his best to keep the music topical and contemporary and succeeded on many levels. He is just a stone cold lyricist and arranger and I'm guessing he can be pretty demanding in the studio ala Donald Fager and Ian Anderson. Either way they wound up on a crappy label (Lifesong) and were never promoted effectively either stateside or overseas. With a proper label and decent promoting , who knows how far they could have gone. Still ....... they play gigs every now and then and are still producing the odd album. Next year will be the 40 year anniversary of the release of their first album. Where has the time gone.

Another interesting corner of rock history. This band makes a couple small-scale not-bad nonthreatening progressive records, lose their principal singer/songwriter/founder, and then do better than ever with this, despite three new guys and the music being comparably no better (but no worse and maybe a hair more accessible without going bland). What sales that did occur (at my record shop in 1978-79) were helped greatly by the distinctive cool-to-display album cover. I certainly was excited back then by this title cut. "Progressive" in the same sense as today's 'Silent Lucidity', it is, like that song, a successful attempt at a mini-epic that goes somewhere without taking 15 minutes. This woulda been a fine first album, but was the only one with this lineup, whereafter the wayward founder came back home and carried on nicely. I still got this dramatic little singularity outta the deal though, and can still recommend it.

I just can't stand the music industry. A band with this much talent and melodic genius can't even get a major deal! I've never heard them before except when I was 13 in 1989 and didn't understand them. Now I've heard nearly this entire album and I'm knocked out. They're better than Styx and Kansas don't even count as a "band" in my book. Well, I actually love love love(!) Styx, but their albums are not as consistent. There were too many different writers in that band. Kansas are too contrived it's like how heavy metal can either be as emotional as Grim Reaper or as cold as the worst of Iron Maiden when they're off their game. This is a great band, no denying that.

Loved this album and this song was one of my favs from it! I noticed one dislike on the song. Guess they thought CTS was one of the new no talent bands of today or something.
