On this day in 1967 {June 11th} the Byrds performed at 'The Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival' in Marin County, California...At the time the group's "Have You Seen Her Face?" was at #96 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; two weeks later on June 25th, 1967 it would peak at #74 {for 1 week}, and that would also be its fourth and last week on the chart...The calendar year of 1967 was a good one for the Byrds, they had a total of five records make the Top 100, the others were "So You Want to Be a Rock 'N Roll Star" {#29}, "My Back Pages" {#30}, "Lady Friend" {#82}, and "Goin' Back" {#89}...

Music For The People

Byrds were just as great as the Beatles, Stones etc. Absolute heavy weights in the 1960s. Absolutely stunning recordings.

Not willing to compare Byrds at various times. Rather, compare Byrds to ANYTHING going on today. Jeesh, but the sixties and seventies were good.

Crosby dropped out early. Not even close.Vintage Byrds. McGuinn had far more talent.

I think it's generally accepted by Beatles "experts" that you can connect "Bells of Ryhmney" to "If I needed Someone".

The late Gene Clark was the father of The Byrds but it was the synergy of Clark, Chris Hillman and Roger McGuinn that made up the heart & soul of this group. It was McGuinn's 12 string electric Rickenbacker that created their signature sound of that era. They covered 7 of Dylan's songs and did them all so well. The Beatles were the very best group to come from the '60's but The Byrds were the best to come out of L.A. Sing on Byrds, for all my days & beyond...........

I own all Byrds album and in my teens they were one of those bands I really looked up too, although this was not my favourite album on a whole, it has a special quality for it's easy listning and fly go, which makes it sound special. although well built rounds and instrumental arrangement with a richer context was more genuinly byrds (like Here with out you or Bells of Rhymney this is by no means bad, but it's the crosby moments on this album I favour more, I think all preceeding LP's werebetter

It's been said McGuinn played Crosby's Gretsch on this. White played lead on 'Time between'.

He plays lead on 'Time between' and presumably 'Girl with no name'.

Before actually joing the Byrds in 1968, Clarence White played on a number of recording sessions with the band, beginning with this album. Not sure whether it's him or McGuinn here though.

I agree although Roger McGuinn was the dominating creative force in this legendary band.

Yes, it's true that it's Harrison that they saw the twelve string from, but unlike The Byrds The Beatles have never fully incorporated the 12 string into their sound, partly because they tended to have more diverse arrangements using a great plethora of different instruments depending on what they felt would work best for a particular song
