Arlo Guthrie performs "City of New Orleans" live at the Farm Aid concert in Mansfield, Massachusetts on September 20, 2008. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Yes, of course, this is such a great song. And Arlo performs it so well, because it sounds like it is so much him....except that he wasn't the songs original composer, he was more like a famous conductor. So, in order to give credit where credit's do, I believe Steve Goodman wrote this, originally. Arlo himself had clarified it with much gratitude when I saw him perform in Mesa, Arizona about a year ago on the anniversary of Woody's passing, and the entire show was such a tribute....10 years ago
