I think that comes with the nature of a festival. Especially a festival like this that has broad scheme of bands with Andrew Bird probably not being one of the most known. Its probably a different story if hes playing for Carnegie Hall where everybody really appreciates his talents. Festivals have a gorilla warfare style kind of approach where you just experiment and work with the crowd. I don't think this should take away from the amazing musician he is.

You have to understand that good artists won't play the exactly the way they do on the record. Especially in a setting such as a festival setting. The crowd takes a big role in the way the song comes out. Also, what would be the point to going to see a show if it sounds exactly like the way it does on the record. I understand what you're saying, I also really enjoy the subtleness of the song. But we're on the outside looking in. The way the song came out probably depended on a lot of factors.

@chauss123 I disagree, even though their styles are very different, take a look at the depth of both of their lyrics. I think both of them (though sounding different) have a way of striking the core of us as humans. Whereas other bands may sing about dating, drugs, money, fast cars, etc... Jack Johnson and Andrew Bird both go far deeper than that and I think they both deserve props for it.
