A throwback (in a good way) to the 60's. Reminds me of "It's A Beautiful Day"s David LaFlamme circa 1968.

@laffingman21 How can you possibly compare the two? I find that insulting.

Usually he does... this solo is weak. And one of the world's better guitarists? There are plenty of players who manage to put the right notes in the right places and have good technique. I'd definitely call him one of the worlds better performers, his music is creative, unique, and fun... I don't know about one of the worlds better guitarists though- he's certainly a more accomplished violinist and whistler.

Its interesting that you say this. I've played blues, Jazz, classical, rock, metal and tango and I happen to think that Andrew Bird is one of the worlds better guitarists purely because he plays the music and doesn't waste his time with sweeps, hammerons and pulloffs and tremolo bar whammying and two hand tapping. He just plays the right fucking notes. He's also been touring for more than 10 years after having graduated with honours in violin performance.

I agree that Andrew Bird is super talented and I love his music- it takes real skill to make loops that are tight enough to be played with a drummer. However, as a guitar player, I do think think his guitar solos tend to be a bad idea. While sometimes he displays clever musical ideas, his lack of technical facility on guitar often make for solos that don't actually add to what he's trying to do.

Andrew Bird is a gift to music... when it comes to talent he's 1000x times better than any of the retarded bullshit you see or hear on Vh1 or MTV. Good music unfortunatley might never be popular again. Oh well, youtube makes up for that

Of course he isn't the best guitar soloist, but that does not take away his genius. He is a living genius without being terribly good at guitar solos
