If you haven't heard it yet, I highly recommend her song "Luka". And the story behind it.

Vega is just her stage name from her first marriage. Now she is a Mom. Nice. Happy ending. The music and lyrics are outstanding as always.

The first and the best. Simple but strange, sincere but restrained, cool and beautiful like the light of her namesake star Vega. A key to her mysterious world.

The delivery still reminds me of Laurie Anderson. That first album is still the one I love the most.

Her first CD is the first thing I ever uploade to my iTunes. This song has more of an impact on me every time I hear it, and I was the fool who used to skip past it on the ol' discman, until I developed the appropriate appreciation for it. Thanks, ZephyrAndy, for this rare treat!

I've heard her explain that this is referencing a Roman Polanski movie, starring Catherine Deneuve, told from the point of view of the (quite fragile) character, breaking under the strain of mistreatment/life. (Look up "TCM Podcast--Suzanne Vega (Movie Promo) February 2012", or click on it in my channel's favorites list--it's #141.) Her clipped, staccato delivery and cooly unhinged music convey the intended effect of fragmentation and dissociation quite effectively.
