What a great voice! If there's a better version of this song, I'd like to hear it. As for the appropriateness of the word "darkies", I can see both sides, although I don't claim to fully understand both sides.

Actually, "My Old Kentucky Home" is a minstrel song written by Stephen Foster 1852. It was published as "My Old Kentucky Home, Good Night" in January 1853 by Firth, Pond, & Co. of New York. The song was introduced by Christy's Minstrels the same year. The original sketch of this song, dating from 1852, substitutes "Poor Uncle Tom" for "My Old Kentucky Home" and aligns Foster's sympathies with the Abolitionist movement, based on his reading "Uncle Tom's Cabin".
