Inexplicably this song was left off the Columbia album. Does anyone know the story behind that?

This entire album rocked. I was in college at the time and these tunes got me through more than a few workout routines that I thought I was too tired to finish. This could almost be a love song.

Very, very underrated song and album.....I have the album "Rumble" , but I just wanted to see how popular this song was on Youtube...very sad, to say the least, that there are only 61,000 views...I was expecting at least 500,000 for a song of this quality....this song easily still holds up today.....still love listening to this song and album and probably always will.....

Clearly among the most underated singer/songwriter/guitar/rock bands ever.

was remembering my childhood, Paul Slivka used to play guitar with my brother Ron Jorgensen in our basement with thethe 2 Jerrys and my friend Richard, it is so neat that he grew up to play with a band with such a wonderful song, hope life gave everybody plenty of happiness-peace out -shanna

I first heard this in November 1988 on a KDKB special. I was very fortunate to spend a few months in Los Angeles, where it was a bigger hit. Whe I got back to Phoenix I found that stations were playing a cover version that wasn't nearly as good as this one.

I have always felt that this tune is very powerful. Would love to have a band behind me singing this to an audience in South America.

Great Great song!! Reminds me the summer of 88 at L.B.I. They used to play at Joe Pop's Shore Bar in Ship Bottom N.J.

I agree but would float the name Neil Finn as someone whose work has been, at least, as consistently good as Shear's has for about the same length of time. Neither of these guys has ever produced swill!

I am only going by memory, here, but I am pretty sure that Conwell's version of the song preceded Shear's own, with Reckless Sleepers.

Personally, I do think JA sucks. Not the three musicians but Perry Farrel. He has no business being behind a mike. Compared to TC and the Rumblers, I think JA leaves a lot to be desired. As a fellow musician, I would have been just fine without ever hearing JA.

I don't see why you have to think Jane's Addiction sucks in order to like these guys. That just seems kinda random and bizarre. Jane's Addiction were a breath of fresh air when they hit. I got sick of them fast, but it's good that they showed up when they did. It was before anybody had even THOUGHT about the term "grunge", and the music scene was very sterile, tight, and mechanical at the time. As a musician, I wouldn't be the same person if I had never heard their music.

I'm certaintly not saying this sucks, but it seems to lack a lot of the melody heard in the original version by Reckless Sleepers. It's got a harder sound, and Conwell's voice is strong, but it sounds a little more monotone and generally noisy. It's a good song either way. I seem to remember the Roger McGuinn version was cool, too.

I don't know tabs for the specific lead guitar parts in this version, but I can certaintly tell you the chords to either version. It's not that complicated, maybe eight chords in the whole song.
