After hearing the Bill Anderson original you can enjoy these two great pop renditions from 1966.

1) Vic Dana - # 30 hit.

2) Don Cherry on the Monument label. It only bubbled under the hot 100 at #112.

There seems to be a rerecorded version around by Dana, which is not satisfying. Mine is from the original single.

Don had some pop success in the 1950s-60s with songs like Band Of Gold.

On this day in 1966 {July 21st} Vic Dana performed "I Love You Drops"* on the Dick Clark produced ABC-TV network weekday-afternoon program 'Where The Action Is'...About two and a half months earlier on May 1st the Song entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #77; six weeks later it would peak at #30 {for 1 week} and it spent 8 weeks on the Top 100...It reached #20 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart...Between 1960 and 1970 he had fifteen records on the Hot Top 100 chart; one made the Top 10, "Red Roses for A Blue Lady", peaked at #10 {for 2 weeks} on March 28th, 1965; the first week it was at #10 there were two other versions of the song on the Top 100 at the time, at #14 was Bert Kaempfert and His Orchestra's version and Wayne Newton's version was at #29...Mr. Dana will celebrate his 77th birthday in just a little over a month from now on August 26th, 2017...* Bill Anderson's version of "I Love You Drops" peaked at #4 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart in 1966, he was also the composer of the song...

Both of these versions are very good and I like both singers, however I always associate this song with the great Bill Anderson. He wrote it and had a #4 hit on the Country Charts oddly it never crossed-over for him but in my mind his version is the standard.

This was a very big record here in OKC in 1966 on our local top 40 radio station's weekly survey. Most of Don Cherry's Monument recordings were. Good Post. Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520 KOMA

Don Cherry's version was very, very big here in OKC on our local top 40 radio station's weekly survey. More so than Vic Dana's. Most of Don Cherry's Monument recordings made our weekly radio survey. I recall my parents playing the Don Cherry album when I was about 7 years old. I always thought Don Cherry should've been alot bigger star than he was. Guess it was a crowded field & maybe he had a lazy promoter...? Still like his version best..

@onemellowdude Oh yes I have heard whispering Bill's original country version and even have it in my CD collection. I like it but I still prefer Vic Dana's Pop version better with richer backing. I also like Vic Dana's version of "Wild Side Of Life". I have not heard Don Cherry's version before but it is also nice.
