Someone started his hostile fire in North Africa, possibly Morocc near Tangier, then later transferred to Southern Pacific theater possibly Biak, New Guinea. He had never been outside the country, he was very surprised seeing all those wide green leaves and trees typical of jungle near the equator line. Got his first time, dealing with monsoon rainfall and the 100% humidity situation in swamps at the edge of the jungle near to the beach head. He hated the monsoon so much. He got a short but memorable sightseeing R&R along the river near to the pyramids before the transfer, since Rommel's Afrika Korps fell earlier than had been predicted and the entire North Africa region secured completely. You can't think of those lyrics without all those experiences. The producer in the recording label company changed the subject in the song to the opposite one, say from I to You or the other way around. Otherwise it was obviously a war-themed song when it was released first time. The singer was a female. That was the main reason to change the subject in the lyrics, the gender of the singer.
