WHITESNAKE RETURN WITH THE PURPLE ALBUM

First New Studio Album In Four Years Set For Release in May Via Frontiers Music SRL

Rock icons Whitesnake are set to return with their 12th studio album this spring. The Purple Album will be released in Europe on May 15th and in North America on May 19th via Frontiers Music SRL. The Purple Album is a re-imagination of classic songs from David Coverdale’s time as the lead singer for Deep Purple’s Mark 3 and Mark 4 studio albums. The album is currently available for pre-order in various configurations on Amazon: a standard edition (http://geni.us/WSPurpleREGamz), a deluxe edition (http://geni.us/WSPurpleDLXamz) featuring 2 bonus tracks, 4 music videos and a Behind The Scenes featurette on the recording of the album and in a double LP vinyl format. Plans are also underway for a special limited box set edition with memorabilia and merchandise. All details will be announced soon.

“It’s a tribute. A homage. It’s a huge thank you from me to Deep Purple for the opportunity I was given over 40 years ago,” states Coverdale. “As I said to Ritchie, you guys set me on an incredible journey that continues today and I couldn’t have asked for better teachers. The University of Deep Purple was an extraordinary, amazing school to learn from. We can’t wait to play these songs in concert!”

From the opening notes of the classic track “Burn,” to album closer “Stormbringer,” Whitesnake are back and better than ever. Songs like “Lady Double Dealer,” “Soldier of Fortune” and “Sail Away” are given a new energy in the very capable hands of the current Whitesnake lineup featuring David Coverdale on vocals, Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra on guitars, Michael Devin on bass and Tommy Aldridge on drums.

Всё бы ничего,но без клавишных делать каверы Deep Purple по-крайней мере неосмотрительно.Невозможно гитарой заменить Hammond,тем более Лорда.И уж тем более,таким гитаристом,как Реб Бич.

Listening to this just made me dig out my old Burn album. You know, back when Coverdale had a voice, so to speak.

Always want to love anything Coverdale does for nostalgia's sake and i still go and see him live hopin' that this time he won't scream, miss the days when he had soul and blues.Belfast Ulster Hall '84 Slide it in tour was a favourite of mine. This sucks though, hate to think how bad it will be live and since it's at the casino this time around i'll give it a miss

I have been a Deep Purple fan since the 1968 album "Shades of Deep Purple on Bill Cosby's short lived Tetragrammaton Records. I still follow Deep Purple and the Purple family of Trapeze, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Black Country Communion, Glenn Huges, and Blackmore's Night. David Coverdale is 63 now and while he has lost a little in his voice is not enough to say he cannot sing, because he can. The "Burn" album shows like a 21 year old David Coverdale writing some very good songs for his first album with Purple. While this new project is missing something such as Blackmore, the late Jon Lord, and the still living Ian Paice, and Glenn Hughes it is still worth a listen. I think these new recordings lack the harder rock edge they need stand up to the originals. Do they suck? No they do not suck and the players play well for the most part. If there is any problem here it is anytime you try to recreate material 40 years old, some such as "Burn", Mistreated',and "Soldier of Fortune" which are I think classic Deep Purple material, you take a chance that some purists will not like it. Being an artist should include taking chances in your creative process. Song writing is fun and the creative process is so fulfilling that I encourage you to try it. It can be harder than it looks. Everyone has their opinions and it is interesting to hear them, if they have some substance. To just say one does not like it does not really say anything other than that is your opinion. One can dislike many things for themselves, but to project your displeasure on others is a bridge to far. That does not mean that the music in this case is no good. Do I think this album is great? No it is not a great recording. Does David treasure those days? For the most part he does. Enjoy what ever music you chose. You may not like someone others favorite music and they may think your top tunes are no good. Sharing the music you like and your opinions what you do not like and why is part and parcel of a good debate. To suggest that your thoughts and only those of others who agree with you are valid is not what a healthy discussion it about. Sad that sometimes these comments descend into personal attacks which really have no place here. Music is for me humanities universal language. I love music as much as I did 50+ years ago. So rock on David for as long as you want to do so. Also check out the latest Deep Purple disc 2013"s "Now What?!. The song "Vincent Price" sounds like vintage Purple to me. Rock on!

yes, the compression is too much and also the musical notes present on the guitar solos...I have appreciated acoustic track as sail away and you keep on movin' where are presents some interesting Morricone "spaghetti" western guitar influences. The original musical material, however, is of the highest quality and relevance.

たいして期待してなかった Whitesnake の The Purple Album がなかなか気持ちいい仕上がり。まあ所々、Glenn Hughes に歌わせたいなぁと思うところもあるんだけどね。

Something is OFF with the production! Each G minor in verses I hear some strange humming in subs. I am listening on my MacBook. I do have a pair of external speakers, but I've never heard such a loud hum.

Not so great... it does not by far compare to the original... Blackmore said more in a few notes than nowadays shredders. And Coverdale's voice hasn't aged very well. Let's be cruel : listen back to back to the 1973 recording and this one and you'll see (hear, that is) what I mean. Pity that Coverdale/blackmore's project didn't work :-(
