This would have been a fantastic version of the song if it wasn't unfortunately recorded in Rivers' Oasis phase. Still love the instruments though, especially the synth on the bridge.

IITS was written with the Summer Songs 2000. I think that's why it has much more personality than most of the rest of Green. With SS2K Rivers was trying to craft perfect pop/rock, with Green Rivers was trying to communicate musically without using emotion. That's why I think the tracks on Green that were written during the Summer of 2000 (Always, Brightening Day, Hash Pipe) have way more personality than the mechanical blandness Coulms was going for at the time of Green.

@madmaxoftherails They release demos after the actual album, like on Weezer (Dusty Gems and Raw Nuggets) it was released in 2010 as a single album, but the demos on it are from back in 1992-1994

@Katiibabii95 Yeah, at the time, Rivers was listening to a lot of Oasis... This demo and the Green Album are examples of Rivers trying to sing like Liam Gallagher.

When Rivers spend years on his own after TBA and Pinkerton, at some point he started sticking song titles to his bedroom walls. At around 1999 or 2000 Brian Bell went around to Rivers, who at this point had been away so long from the public eye his own mother was phooning just making sure those rumors on the internet that he was dead wasn't true. Anyway Bell picked out the title Island In The Sun from Rivers bedroom wall, and loved it. So no it was recorded around 1999 or 2000.
