Gentle Giant is the most adventurous and versatile band in Rock. Their music is just superb. It's hard to believe that it's relatively underrated and unknown by this generation. Actually they are true musicians.

I owned this album when it was released and don't remember it being any more difficult to obtain than going down to my local record store. I read on GG's Wiki page the same thing you're saying but I don't remember this album being at all hard to acquire. Strange.

Wow, this album is just getting more exciting with every track.. I'm thinking, my clear favourite over "Octopus" and "Free Hand".

Back in the 70's the local FM station was playing some Chick Corea (Remember him?) So I turned on the big reel to reel recorder and promptly fell asleep. Yes i was under the influence of some mind altering substances but thats a story for another day. During my slumbering on came a program called "King Biscuit Flour Hour" (remember that?) featuring this crazy prog rock band called Gentle Giant, live ! I was blown away when I finally got to review the tape and hear "Way of Life" for the 1st time!

1 last comment Chrono (and thanks for listening) but have you heard 'out there' there is this Studio version of Funny ways (maybe BBC) with just Phil singing? ~1971 maybe. I have it on a hard-drive. Just Phil on lead vocals..w/a slight...imo operatic? inflection with his voice? -- maybe I'll make a vid & post it. --- also 1 last comment. with Kerry..in concert I think his main keyboard instrument post-phil was a Clavinet. That wet, harpsichord-y piano sound. well 1 of them.

..I know what your saying (And I'll accept your argument. I know-sounds confrontational (sorry!)..but this is a fun discussion : )) ..my take: with Octopus there is the cut 'Boys in the Band' which (off the top of my head) has that post-Phil sound, if you will. Even in concert Derick played the Alto. As far as Kerry Octo again has 'Think of Me With Kindness'. But hmm. W/that cut..do I hear a French horn? (Phil!!). So theres a transition (my point). from w/Phil to No-Phil.

Hey Chrono, me again. You know, you have some pretty good insight (with GG/this record). Very well expressed. Tho I have this record on CD (somewhere), 'was just listening to 'Inmates Lullaby' until it bandwith/hung-up. All the soft & not-so-soft percussion instruments. & the point/counterpoint vocals. Great stuff. I 'love' these 2nd-ly or 3rd-ly GG pieces. The softer ones. N E thing from Acquiring the taste. 'Peel the Paint' from 3 Friends..before Derrick peels it.
