Brian Wampler's designs just keep getting better and better. Here we give you his latest installment to the high-gain set - the Triple Wreck.
And what a beast it is. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean.
I'd like to take this opportunity to bid a fond farewell to my Tokai LoveRock which I have had to sell to make ends meet. It's a very sad day for me and I'll miss it dearly. This will be the last time I play it and last clip I'll ever make with it. Keep him well, Mr New Owner.
Right then; fond farewells over with, let's talk about the recording process.
I ran the Tokai direct to the Triple Wreck which ran to the clean channel of my Laney. The Triple Wreck, by the way, enjoys as clean a channel as you can possibly give it. This will highlight all of the great EQ possibilities it is capable of and not over compress its already saturated distortion.
I close miked the amp with a Violet Design 'The Amethyst' electrostatic studio condenser microphone. It was dead center on the right greenback and hard up against the grill.
The mic fed an M-Audio ProFire 610 interface which, in turn, fed my MacBook Pro. I used Logic Pro 8 to do the recording.
Inside Logic I used the 'spreader' plug-in to give a faux stereo audio impression. There was also a tiny bit of 'Vintage Plate' reverb added, courtesy of IK Multimedia's CSR. This I added to take out some of the dryness of close miking.
On the output strip I would normally add a touch of Waves Maserati GTi to liven things up a tad. Those who are familiar with this plug-in will know how great it is, however, I'm pleased (for Brian Wampler) to say that in this case it was not needed at all as the pedal had PLENTY of life of its own. So, all I did was stick a Waves L316 limiter (flat EQ) over the output to keep my levels in check. And that's it!
Thanks for watching.
Enjoy a Triple Wreck today. You won't be sorry; but your neighbors may.
