Vince Gill performs "Victim of Life's Circumstances" live at the Farm Aid concert in Champaign, Illinois on September 22, 1985. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Vince Gill's may be to country what Stevie Ray was to blues-- very strong biting leads which cut right through the thick texture of a full band-- IT IS NO INSULT TO SAY--but the greatest single pick pickers--whether you say Hendrix, rock, SRV, blues, Gill, country, whatever, articulate nothing close to the complexity required by the great thumb pickers, Travis, Atkins, Johnson (Robert)--CONVERSELY their complexity does not work well with a thick background texture, ergo, they often played completely ALONE, or sometimes with a light thumping bass or other soft muted instruments so one could hear the details of the chords, double stops, and notes being picked by their other fingers while their thumbs maintained the rhythm and bass. Its not all good, but these five qualify, ..
