Sounds like VH was deviating from the formula that worked for them for 20 years. You can hear slight elements of late 90s styles like Soundgarden, etc in it. They should have just stuck with what works for them.

This is a good example of the fact that talent alone does not make a great band. It's also about achieving a great chemistry. This experiment should have worked. Cherone's style is similar to David and Sammy in certain respects, and Charone seems to have a broader range as well. The songwriting is good, nice composition, cool solo. Just isn't quite the lightening in a bottle of the first album or 1984 or 5150.

This song is the ROCKS! Steve Guttenberg is probably the best VH singer since Sammy Lee Roth! For reals tho, Gary was great when I saw them live. He could do Sammy and Dave songs both. Guy was impressive!

Gary Cherone wasn't a bad singer. He was just never meant for Van Halen. as a solo artist, Not bad, seems like a good person as well. When he went to Van Halen, he was just put into a spot he was never meant to be in.

why VH fans hate this song?? sounds Van Halen, (little bit different, but you can feel the VH vibe) and Gary Cherone did a decent job.. even for 15 minutes...

At some point Eddie stopped writing riffs and started writing choruses. I like his style with Diamond Dave the most. Although they did release some awesome albums with Sammie. Just different stuff. For Unlawful is one of my absolute favorite rock albums. I learned to play guitar to that album. Long live VH.

I actually liked this album! It is Van Halen. For those that hate Gary Cherone, just remember he has achieved more financial success than a lot of people out there. You can't fault him (intelligently) for joining this group! We really don't have time to waste hating people. I listened to Van Halen from day one and to me this album is my second favorite, behind 5150.

I remember when this video first came out. I remember MTV having interviews with the band, etc. and Eddie Van Halen struggling to brag about something he did with the guitar. The thing that stuck in my mind the most, however, was this video and that STUPID hat EVH is wearing in the video. It screamed - DESPERATE TO REMAIN YOUNG. By 1998, their sound was so outdated, and I was never much a fan of EVH's over playing of the guitar - big show off.
